Dying for Laugh wins two awards

The short film won the Best Low Budget Campaign and Best Use of Video categories at the awards, which celebrate excellence in public service communication. The awards ceremony was held - appropriately - at Manchester's Comedy Store.
Dying for a Laugh was commissioned and funded by the Bolton Dying Matters Awareness group, part of Bolton PCT, for national Dying Matters Awareness Week in May 2011. It was made by PictureWise Productions.
Kathleen LaCamera, a partner at PictureWise Productions, said: "We couldn’t be more pleased and grateful to Bolton Dying Matters for their partnership in this project, the NCPC and Dying Matters for their support and especially to our fabulous celebrity comedians for tackling death and getting us all to laugh and talk about it."
Vanessa Shaw, Palliative Care Educator, Bolton PCT, said that the Bolton Dying Matters Awareness Group experienced a 'great deal of angst' about linking humour to death, before concluding that laughter was an ideal way to open up discussion - and help reduce fears.
She said: "We felt the DVD opened the doors for some valuable and relevant discussions that are likely to filter into clinical arenas and have a positive impact on patient and family experiences of palliative and of end of life care in Bolton."
